The Pancyprian Veterinary Association successfully organized a two-day seminar on the “Foundations of Behavioral Medicine: Understanding Canine and Feline Behavior for Veterinarians” on 11–12 October 2025 in Larnaca. Supported by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), the event brought together two internationally renowned specialists, Dr Gonçalo da Graça Pereira and Dr Christos Karagiannis, who delivered eight interactive and highly educational sessions.

Aimed at enhancing veterinarians’ understanding and management of behavioral issues in companion animals, the program emphasized the importance of integrating behavioral medicine into everyday clinical practice. Participants had the opportunity to explore practical diagnostic and therapeutic tools, gain deeper insight into communication and social structures in dogs and cats, and develop a clearer understanding of behavioral challenges such as separation-related problems, aggression, and inter-animal tension.

The seminar brought together practicing veterinarians and undergraduate students, whose participation was especially meaningful as it marked the first time future veterinarians joined such an event. Their involvement supported the PVA’s goal of introducing students early to current knowledge and professional networking opportunities.
Beyond its educational value, the event helped establish behavioral medicine as an emerging discipline in Cyprus, strengthened collaboration between practitioners and specialists, and enriched the veterinary community’s ability to address behavioral challenges in clinical practice.
The Pancyprian Veterinary Association extends its sincere appreciation to WSAVA for its valuable support and ongoing commitment to advancing high-quality continuing education for its member associations.
